Ontario’s New Recruitment Laws: A Win for Transparency and Fairness
As a recruiter, one of the biggest challenges I face is getting timely feedback from clients after interviews. It’s not just recruiters who feel this pain—candidates invest their time, energy, and hopes into the hiring process, and radio silence can be discouraging and disheartening. That’s why I’m genuinely thankful for Ontario’s new recruitment laws that are set to reshape the hiring landscape.
Starting January 1, 2026, employers will now be required to notify interviewed candidates of their hiring status within 45 days of their last interview. This simple but powerful step ensures candidates are not left in the dark and reinforces respect for the effort they put into the process. Along with this, job postings will now need to include compensation details, giving job seekers a clear, honest picture of what to expect before applying. Transparency like this sets the stage for better alignment between employers and candidates right from the start.
Another important update is already in place: since January 1, 2024, recruiters and temporary help agencies must hold a license to operate in Ontario. This is a huge step toward building accountability and professionalism within the recruitment industry. It not only raises the bar for quality but also protects candidates and employers by ensuring that everyone in the process is working within clear and ethical standards.
For me, these changes are more than just legal updates—they’re a reflection of what recruitment should be: respectful, transparent, and fair. I look forward to seeing the positive impact these laws will have on both candidates and clients alike.
